Problems Sleeping?
Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep? Could there be more to it, especially if you can’t seem to go back to sleep? Could God be in it?
Isaiah 50:4 says…..
The Lord God has given Me
The tongue of the learned,
That I should know how to speak
A word in season to him who is weary.
He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear,
To hear as the learned.
God has been showing me, that when I get up at those times, He is awakening me and wants to speak to me, or He wants me to pray about something or someone.
Especially if you wake up and you can’t fall back to sleep, because you are thinking of a problem, a situation, a person, or a challenge.
Philippians 4:6-7 says…
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Rather than tossing and turning in our beds, God wants us to take these things to Him.
1 Peter 5:6-casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.
For years I have been praying,
“Lord, teach me what it means to pray without ceasing. I want to be more of a man of prayer,
I want to draw closer to you, and I want to know you better.”
And I am realizing this is what He is doing.
Many times I have woke up early in the morning, and as I try to go back to sleep, it often doesn’t happen.
But when I rise up and get my Bible, and begin to pray and spend time with the Lord, I end up getting blessed. Often there are people He wants me to pray for, or a situation, or something that weighs heavy on my heart and He is wanting me to do what it says in Matthew 11:28-30…….”Come to Me all you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls,
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
God is wanting to take my stress….and rest…….to Him. And He doesn’t want me to be weary and carry these heavy burdens, He wants me to release them to Him, and trust Him to work things out.
But God doesn’t just want us to not be weary,
He wants to use us to help others not be weary.
That is what God is saying in Isaiah 50:4 above,
He wants us to learn to speak a word in season
(of encouragement) to those who are weary.
And that is the thought in 2 Corinthians 1:3-
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
Who comfort us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
So, next time you can’t get back to sleep, get up and spend time with the Lord; He may be wanting to speak to you, comfort you, and prepare you to be a comfort to others.
That is my prayer for anyone reading this; that you would know God loves you, and knows everything about you, and wants to draw you to Himself, and use you to be a blessing to others.
In His love and power,
Pastor Marty
